For many high school student-athletes, the dream of competing in college begins long before a scholarship offer arrives.
It begins with an opportunity to be seen.
At the Arizona Boosters Foundation, we believe talented student-athletes can be found throughout Arizona. But talent alone does not always provide access to college coaches, campuses, recruiting opportunities, and the experiences that help athletes understand what competing at the next level requires.
Sometimes, opportunity starts simply with getting there.
Bringing Athletes Closer to Opportunity
Over the past year, the Arizona Boosters Foundation has worked with Coach Phillip Braxton and a group of dedicated student-athletes to help them gain greater exposure to college programs.
Rather than waiting for opportunities to find these athletes, the goal was to help bring the athletes directly to the opportunities.
Through strategically planned college visits, student-athletes were able to experience college campuses firsthand, learn more about athletic programs, connect with coaches, and gain a better understanding of what playing college football could look like.
“For many young athletes, these experiences can make college athletics feel less like a distant possibility and more like an achievable goal.”
15 Athletes Generated College Interest
The results demonstrated what can happen when talented athletes receive greater access and exposure.
Fifteen student-athletes generated college interest through these efforts, with several receiving offers and additional recruiting opportunities.
But the impact goes beyond the number of offers.
Athletes had an opportunity to learn what college coaches are looking for. They experienced college environments firsthand. They were exposed to different programs and possibilities. And they returned home with a clearer understanding of the work required to reach the next level.
Those experiences inspired the Arizona Boosters Foundation to think bigger.
From One Team to Athletes Across Arizona
What if more student-athletes had access to these opportunities?
Transportation, travel expenses, lodging, meals, and other costs can make college exposure trips difficult for athletes, families, and school programs to afford.
Those barriers should not determine which athletes get the opportunity to be seen.
That belief is helping shape the Arizona Boosters Foundation’s Driving Opportunity initiative.
Our vision is to expand access to college exposure opportunities for student-athletes across Arizona and across multiple sports:

Arizona is filled with talented young athletes.
Some compete for large programs with extensive resources. Others attend schools or participate in programs where recruiting exposure and travel opportunities may be more limited.
Their circumstances may be different, but their potential can be just as great.

By working alongside coaches, schools, families, community organizations, donors, and corporate partners, we hope to create more opportunities for Arizona student-athletes to experience college campuses and connect with the possibilities available beyond high school.
