Driving Opportunity Helping Student-Athletes Reach the Places Where Opportunity Begins
Some of these kids had never set foot on a college campus before. We wanted to change that — so we started driving.
It Started With a Conversation
Coach Phillip Braxton had athletes with ability, with drive, and with real potential. What he didn’t have was an easy way to get them in front of the people who could change their lives.
So we started planning trips. Loading up a van. Driving to campuses across the Southwest and letting these young men walk through the gates and see — for many of them, for the very first time — what college actually looks like up close.
No polish. No big production. Just a coach, some kids, a foundation that believed in them, and a road trip with a real purpose.
Those trips took them to Arizona State University, the University of Arizona, UCLA, San Diego State University, and the University of San Diego — some of the most competitive programs in the country. Places these athletes had only ever seen on TV.
What happened next meant everything.
Fifteen student-athletes generated college interest. Several received offers. And every single one of them came home knowing something they didn’t know before — that this was possible for them.
That’s when we knew we had to do more.
When you watch a kid — maybe 16 years old — step onto a college campus for the first time… walk into a locker room bigger than anything he’s ever seen… sit across the table from a college coach who is actually talking to him…

Suddenly keeping grades up isn’t just something a teacher says. Putting in extra work isn’t just a cliché. It’s connected to something real — a place they’ve stood, a room they’ve been in, a hand they’ve shaken. Hard work, they now know in their bones, can actually get you there.
Every Sport. Every Kid. All of Arizona.
We started with football. But every sport has athletes who deserve to see what’s possible. We want to reach all of them.
Sports We Want to Serve
We focus on sophomores and juniors — the window when recruiting attention is starting to build and the decisions that shape a college career are being made. As one class graduates, the next steps up. The cycle repeats every year. The opportunity keeps flowing.
States Within Driving Distance
Arizona sits in the middle of some incredible programs. We can reach colleges across six states without ever getting on a plane. That’s a real advantage — if you have a way to get there.
This year we’re adding soccer, baseball, and basketball — each with their own recruiting seasons, and we’re building visit schedules around exactly when college coaches are paying attention. For a lot of families, travel is the part that’s hard. That’s the part we want to take off their plate.
A Van Full of Potential
Right now, every trip starts the same way: we rent a passenger van for the weekend. Coach Phillip Braxton, his staff, and Arizona Boosters Foundation have been covering that cost out of pocket — because we believe in what happens when these athletes show up on a campus.
But at $850 a weekend, that’s not something we can keep doing forever. And we don’t want to slow down.
So we’re raising funds to purchase our own dedicated ABF passenger van.
One van. Owned by the foundation. Available for every team, every sport, every trip. No rental fees eating into what could go toward the athletes themselves. Just a vehicle that shows up when a coach calls and says — we have kids who need to be seen.
Current cost to transport athletes on each college visit trip. A dedicated foundation van eliminates this recurring expense entirely.
